The annual British Heart Foundation London to Brighton bike ride takes place on Sunday 16th June and there’ll be some travel disruption in the city, with road closures and temporary road traffic orders.

The Sussex leg starts at the Dukes Head roundabout and comes down through Turners Hill, Ardingly, Haywards Heath to Ditchling Beacon.

Beacon Road over Ditchling Beacon to Old Boat Corner is closed from 6am through to 8pm.

Brighton and Hove

Here in the city, several roads and junctions are closed from 7am until 9pm 

Road Closures:

(a) Ditchling Road, Brighton – from the city boundary to the northern kerb line of Carden Avenue / Coldean Lane at Old Boat Corner

(b) Coldean Lane, Brighton – from its junction with Ditchling Road (Old Boat Corner) to its junction with Forest Road

(c) Coldean Lane, Brighton – southbound carriageway only, from its junction with Forest Road to its junction with the northern kerb line of Park Road

(d) Southover Street – at its junction with Richmond Terrace (A23)

(e) Richmond Parade - at its junction with Richmond Place (A23)

(f) Morley Street - at its junction with Richmond Place (A23)

(g) Kingswood Street - at its junction with Grand Parade (A23)

Carriageway closures:

(a) The closure of the southbound carriageway of Lewes Road from its junction with Union Road to its junction with Waterloo Place

(b) The closure of the southbound carriageway of Richmond Place for its full length

(c) The closure of the southbound carriageway of Grand Parade from its junction with Richmond Place to its southern most junction with Marlborough Place –

(d) The prohibition of northbound traffic on Lewes Road from its junction with Union Road to its junction with Waterloo Place, southbound traffic to use the northbound carriageway.

(e) The prohibition of northbound traffic on Richmond Place for its full length, southbound traffic to use the northbound carriageway.

(f) The prohibition of northbound traffic on Grand Parade from its junction with Richmond Place to its southern most junction with Marlborough Place, southbound traffic to use the northbound carriageway.

Prohibition of Left turns:

(a) from St Peter’s Place into Waterloo Place (northbound)

(b) from Marlborough Place into Grand Parade (northbound)

(c) from Grand Parade into Edward Street

Prohibition of Right Turns:

(a) from Ditchling Road into Coldean Lane

(b) from Union Road (eastbound) into Lewes Road (southbound)

Temporary suspension of existing one-way order:

(a) Circus Street

(b) Albion Street (from the junction of Albion Hill to Tamplin Terrace)

Temporary One-way Traffic Flow:

Coldean Lane in a southbound direction only from its junction with Forest Road to its junction with the northern kerb line of Park Road

Southern Railway

Sunday 16 June

Temporary restrictions will apply; cycles will not be permitted on Gatwick Express, Southern or Thameslink trains (south of London Blackfriars) from the start of service until 12:00. 

After 12:00, restrictions will continue on services departing from stations between Chichester in the west to Pevensey and Westham in the east and Gatwick Airport in the north

  • 10/06/24 The Old Shoreham Road in Portslade has a lane closure by the Mayberry Garden Centre.

  • 10/06/24 Hangleton Road in Hove has a lane closure near the Grenadier.

  • 10/06/24 Graham Avenue in Portslade is closed until Friday due to micro surfacing between Chalky Road and Graham Crescent.

  • 10/06/24 Eaton Road in Hove has temporary lights due to utility works.

  • 🚧 Rothbury Road in Hove is closed from tomorrow (25/05/24) until the 2nd June. 🚦 There are temporary lights planned for Portland Road as part of those works.

  • 🚧 Elder Place and the northern part of York Hill are closed are closed until 9pm on Monday 27th May due to the Brighton Festival Showwomxn event.

  • M27 westbound within J1 | Westbound | Congestion

  • A27 eastbound between A259 near Emsworth and A259 near Chichester (west) | Eastbound | Congestion

    Location : The A27 eastbound between the junctions with the A259 Havant and the A259 Chichester West. Reason : Congestion. Status : Currently Active. Return To Normal : Normal traffic conditions are expected between 12:00 and 12:15 on 27 July 2024. Delay : There are currently delays of 30 minutes against expected traffic.

  • A27 westbound between A280 and A284 near Arundel (east) | Westbound | Congestion

    Location : The A27 westbound between the A280 and the junction with the A284 Arundel East. Reason : Congestion. Status : Currently Active. Return To Normal : Normal traffic conditions are expected between 11:45 and 12:00 on 27 July 2024. Delay : There are currently delays of 10 minutes against expected traffic.

  • A3 southbound between A325 and B3006 | Southbound | Congestion

    Location : The A3 southbound between the junctions with the A325 and the A272 Petersfield North. Reason : Congestion. Status : Currently Active. Return To Normal : Normal traffic conditions are expected between 11:45 and 12:00 on 27 July 2024. Delay : There are currently delays of 10 minutes against expected traffic.

  • A3 southbound between A245 and M25 | Southbound | Congestion

    Location : The A3 southbound between the junctions with the A245 and the M25 . Reason : Congestion. Status : Currently Active.
