
Police and bomb squad descend on Newfield Road after explosives discovered


Emergency services have launched a major operation in Newhaven after reports of unexploded munitions were found inside a residential property on Newfield Road.
Sussex Police confirmed they were called to the scene on Wednesday morning, prompting the immediate evacuation of surrounding homes and the establishment of a 50-metre safety cordon.
Specialist officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team have been deployed to assess the potentially dangerous items.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said:
“Police are currently responding to Newfield Road, Newhaven, following reports of unexploded munitions discovered inside a property. As a precaution, officers have established a 50-metre cordon around the area. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been called in to assess the items.”
Emergency services remain on scene, and officers are engaging directly with residents in the area. Those living within the exclusion zone have been asked to temporarily leave their homes while the situation is safely resolved.
The nature and origin of the munitions have not yet been confirmed.
Residents are advised to avoid the area and follow police instructions.
