A Sussex Police officer has pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault by touching following an incident at a social gathering.

PC Ryan Busby, 25, appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 8 July, where he admitted to the offences during his first appearance.

The court heard that the assaults took place on 20 December 2024 while Busby was off duty, and involved four women who were known to him. The incident occurred during a private event.

Once the allegations were reported, Sussex Police referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which instructed the force’s Professional Standards Department to carry out a local investigation.

Following the investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised criminal charges to be brought against Busby.

The officer, who is currently suspended from duty, was granted court bail. He is due to be sentenced at Staines Magistrates’ Court on 29 September.

Sussex Police confirmed that misconduct proceedings will now resume alongside the criminal case.
