    Person Rescued from Mud at Pagham Harbour by Selsey Coastguard

    Selsey Coastguard Team were called out on 14 March after reports of a person stuck in the mud at RSPB Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve. The incident was logged as callout 26/2026 at 14:13.

    The Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were also tasked to provide support if needed.

    The casualty was found stuck up to their knees in mud. Two Coastguard Rescue Mud Technicians from Selsey deployed onto the mud and were able to safely extract the person using a stretcher.

    Thankfully, the individual did not require medical treatment and was given a blanket to keep warm before being able to go home safely.

    The team thanked a local farmer and the homeowners at Hasleys Farm for providing access to the area. Following the rescue, the team was stood down and began washing down their mud rescue equipment.

    If stuck in mud along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

    Don’t try to rescue someone yourself—call for help to prevent others from getting stuck.

    If stuck, stay still and spread your weight if possible.

    Stick to paths and avoid walking on mudflats.

    Coastguard teams remind visitors that emergencies along the coast or at sea should always be reported immediately to 999.
