Hastings, East Sussex — A man has been charged with multiple serious offences after a late-night collision in Hastings that left a young woman seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to St Helen’s Road shortly after midnight on Sunday 18 January following reports that a car had crashed into roadside railings. A 23-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which were described as not life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene before police arrived. Following enquiries, officers later located and arrested a suspect at a nearby address.

Alfie Foster, 22, of Crowborough Road, Hastings, has since been charged in connection with the incident. The charges relate not only to the collision itself but also to a wider sequence of alleged criminal behaviour.

The charges include kidnap, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, intentional strangulation, assault of a woman known to him, and theft from a dwelling.

Sussex Police say the investigation uncovered evidence suggesting the incident was part of a more serious and complex chain of events rather than a straightforward road traffic collision.

Foster was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 21 January.

Police enquiries are ongoing, and officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses. Anyone who saw the vehicle prior to the crash, or who may have relevant CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage, is urged to contact Sussex Police.

Information can be reported online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Fleetwood.
