Emergency services were called to a house fire in St Leonards last night, believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a blaze at a residential building on Cliftonville Road at 10.50pm on Thursday (13 June).

Four fire engines and an Aerial Ladder Platform were deployed to the scene, with crews attending from The Ridge, Bohemia Road, Broad Oak, and Bexhill.

Firefighters tackled the flames using six sets of Breathing Apparatus, two hose reel jets, and one main jet. Sussex Police were also in attendance to support the operation.

Residents in the area were advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke.

By 11.45pm, the fire was confirmed to be extinguished, and thankfully there were no reported injuries.

A spokesperson for the fire service said the blaze is believed to have started after the property was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
