Victims suffered serious head injuries in separate pub assaults

A man from Crawley has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of violently assaulting two men in Sussex pubs.

Luke Boughey, 46, of Stephenson Way, Crawley, was convicted of two counts of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) with intent at Hove Crown Court following a trial that began on 3 March 2023. The sentencing took place on 9 May.

Pool Game Dispute Leads to Severe Injuries

The first attack occurred at the White Heart Pub in Crawley on 11 August 2022. Boughey assaulted a man with a pool cue after an argument during a game of pool. The victim sustained significant swelling, bruising, and a brain bleed. Boughey was sentenced to four years for this assault.

Second Assault Causes Facial Fractures

A second violent incident took place on 13 November 2022 at the Brewers Pub in Burgess Hill. Boughey again used a pool cue, striking a man in the face and fracturing his cheekbone in three places while the victim was conversing with a friend. For this attack, Boughey received a five-year sentence.

The judge ruled that Boughey’s sentences would run consecutively, leading to a total of nine years in prison.

Detective Constable Ellie Mannan from the Crawley Investigations Team said: “This was a shocking and violent pattern of behaviour that left two individuals with serious injuries. Violence of this nature will not be tolerated in our communities, and we hope this sentence brings some justice to the victims involved.”

Sussex Police continue to urge anyone witnessing violence or antisocial behaviour to report incidents promptly to help maintain community safety.
