28 August 2025 – A British Airways flight from Cyprus declared an emergency while on approach to London Gatwick on Thursday night.
Flight BA2785, an Airbus A321-200 inbound from Larnaca (LCA), transmitted the emergency squawk code 7700 at 21:50 UTC (10:50pm UK time) while descending through FL240 over the English Channel.
The aircraft, which departed Larnaca at 9:02pm local time (scheduled 5:50pm), was already established in descent and passing through FL260 when the alert was made.
On landing at Gatwick, the plane was met by airport ground services and emergency vehicles before taxiing to stand under its own power.
Sussex News has received unconfirmed reports of a medical emergency on board.
A British Airways spokesperson has been contacted for comment, but no response had been received at the time of publication.
