A man has been arrested following a fire at a high-rise building in Brighton.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Wellington Road at around 6.50pm on Sunday, November 3, after reports of a blaze on the fourth floor.
Residents were evacuated from the building as a precaution while East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service tackled the fire. Several fire engines were sent to the scene due to the height of the building, and the public was urged to avoid the area.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished by around 8pm.
Police have since confirmed that they believe the fire was started deliberately. A 35-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has been released on bail while investigations continue.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
“Officers are investigating the full circumstances of this incident and encourage anyone who witnessed it or has relevant information, such as CCTV or mobile footage, to contact us online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1145 of 03/11.”
