Officers removed Hales from the area and reported that she was intoxicated with alcohol at the time. She continued to use abusive language as her details were taken by police.
Hales appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 13 May 2025 and was found guilty of causing religiously aggravated harassment.
She was fined £120 and ordered to pay £650 in court costs, along with a £96 victim surcharge. The court also imposed a three-year Football Banning Order, preventing her from attending any professional football match, home or away, in the UK or overseas.
Police and Club Condemn Abuse
Sussex Police Response
Dedicated Football Officer PC Gregg Marshall said:
“This was a shocking case and Hales’ antisemitic language has no place in football or in society.
During this case we have liaised closely with Brighton & Hove Albion to ensure the club have the full facts of the investigation for their own action to be taken.”
Club Issues Indefinite Ban
A spokesperson for Brighton & Hove Albion added:
“We echo those comments. There is no place for such behaviour, and in line with our zero-tolerance approach to any form of xenophobia, the individual will also be subject to an indefinite ban from the club.
We’d also like to place on record our thanks to Sussex Police for their professionalism and support in dealing with such an unpleasant case.”
Brighton & Hove Albion has reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all supporters, both on matchdays and beyond.
