Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspected road rage incident that escalated into an assault and vehicle damage near Littlehampton.
Officers were called at around 4.10pm on Monday, 1 July, to reports of an incident at the BP service station at Crossbush, just off the A27.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, was driving a dark-coloured Toyota Aygo when she was allegedly threatened and assaulted. Prior to the confrontation, her vehicle is believed to have been damaged while travelling westbound on the A27, near the approach to the services.
The incident continued along the A284 and culminated at the BP garage forecourt, where the victim contacted police.
A 32-year-old man from Bognor, driving a white or silver VW Caddy van, was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in public, and driving without due care and attention. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Witnesses urged to come forward
PC Jack Pond, from the Response Investigation Team, said:
“We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of this incident, particularly motorists who may have been at the BP garage, the Costa Coffee drive-through, or the car park of the Comfort Inn at the time.
“We also want to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicles involved while they were travelling westbound on the A27 moments before the confrontation.”
Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1241 of 01/07.
