    Cafe toilets damaged in suspected arson attack at Peacehaven sports park

    Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses following a fire at the Gateway Café in Centenary Park, Peacehaven.

    Emergency services were called to the café at around 8.30pm on Sunday, December 21, after a blaze was reported at the popular park venue. Fire crews attended and successfully extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.

    Police believe the fire was deliberately started and are treating the incident as arson. An investigation is ongoing to establish exactly how the blaze began and who was responsible.

    Officers are particularly keen to speak to five boys believed to be connected to the incident and are urging anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward. Investigators are also asking residents and motorists to check any CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage that may have captured suspicious activity near the café that evening.

    Anyone with information is asked to report it to Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1076 of 21/12.

    Sussex Police have also shared an appeal on social media, urging the public to help. In a message posted online, officers said they are seeking witnesses to a deliberate fire at the Gateway Café in Centenary Park on December 21 and are asking anyone with information or footage to contact police.

    Police continue to work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and thank the public for their assistance.
