Rapid tactical action by police has led to two boys and a man being arrested and charged following an incident involving dangerous driving and weapons near Chichester.
Officers were alerted at around 6.30pm on Monday, 5 January, after a vehicle failed to stop for police. A short pursuit took place, before officers acted quickly to prevent the incident from continuing into Chichester city centre by deploying a tactical stop.
Weapons were seized from the vehicle and three people – two boys aged 16 and 17, and a 19-year-old man – were arrested in connection with the incident.
George Lowman, 19, of Whyke Road, Chichester, was charged on Tuesday, 6 January, at Worthing Magistrates’ Court with possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place. He has been released on bail and is due to appear in court again on 10 February.
A 17-year-old boy was charged on Tuesday, 6 January, at Worthing County Court with a number of offences, including failing to stop when directed by a police constable, dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, using a motor vehicle without third-party insurance, and failing to comply with a community protection notice. He has been bailed to appear in court on 26 February.
A 16-year-old boy was charged on Tuesday, 6 January, at Worthing Magistrates’ Court with failing to comply with a community protection order. He has also been bailed to appear in court on 26 February.
Police said enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
