A multi-agency crackdown on waste crime saw officers stop vehicles in Withy Patch, Lancing, earlier this week.
During the operation, one vehicle was found to be carrying scrap metal and was around 1,000kg overweight. The vehicle was also believed to be uninsured and was seized, with a fine issued to the driver.
Sergeant Tom Carter, from the Sussex Police Rural Crime Team, said the checks were part of regular joint operations aimed at tackling illegal waste activity.
“We regularly carry out a multi-agency operation to clamp down on waste crime,” he said.
The operation involved the Sussex Police Rural Crime Team working alongside the Environment Agency, local authorities, Sussex Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
Officers checked vehicle condition and driver licences across a range of vehicles, from transit vans to heavy goods vehicles.
Police say the initiative is designed to disrupt the illegal transportation and trade of waste, helping to prevent fly-tipping and the use of unlawful waste sites across Sussex.
