Emergency services were called to a fire at The Big Park in Peacehaven on Monday evening after a blaze broke out inside the public toilets near the park café.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene after reports of a fire at the toilets at The Big Park.
Peacehaven Town Council confirmed the incident was the result of vandalism, describing it as an act of arson.
In a statement, the council said:
“We are saddened to find out that this evening the toilets at The Big Park have, yet again, been subjected to vandalism, this time arson. The Fire Service is currently on site.
We are sorry to advise that the toilet will be closed for the foreseeable future.
Thank you to the resident who was quick to call the Fire Service.”
The fire was first spotted by local resident Russell Kjelgaard Sarrou, who was walking his dog nearby and immediately raised the alarm.
Thanks to his quick actions, the fire service was able to attend promptly and prevent further damage.
The extent of the damage has not yet been confirmed. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the relevant authorities.
