Two Russian nationals were rescued on Saturday evening after being cut off by the tide at the entrance to Pagham Harbour. Sussex Police received the initial call and maintained contact with the pair via mobile phone using an interpreter.
Selsey RNLI launched their inshore lifeboat at 8.46pm, arriving on scene within minutes. The casualties, a man and a woman, were given lifejackets and taken onboard. When attempts to land them on Pagham beach were abandoned due to swell, the lifeboat was met by Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team and an ambulance at Selsey, where the pair were safely brought ashore.
Both were checked by ambulance crews and taken to hospital with mild hypothermia. Weather conditions at the time were calm, with good visibility.
