A major police response in Crawley on Saturday, May 31 led to the temporary closure of Gossops Drive after three officers were assaulted during an attempted arrest.
Sussex Police were called to a property on Gossops Drive at around 2.30pm as part of an ongoing investigation. When officers attempted to arrest a man, he resisted violently, assaulting three officers and causing significant injuries before fleeing into a nearby property.
The road was cordoned off for a period while emergency services responded and secured the scene.
A 43-year-old man from Crawley was later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.
All three officers were taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Superintendent Karrie Bohanna said:
“Violence towards emergency workers is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Police officers put themselves at risk to protect the public, but they should not expect to be assaulted in the course of their duties. I would like to commend these three officers for their bravery.”
Police are urging anyone with information or relevant video footage – including doorbell or mobile phone recordings – to contact them online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Whitby.
