A serious road traffic collision involving a bus and a teenage pedestrian has led to the closure of Western Road in Brighton city centre this afternoon (Sunday, 26 May).
Emergency Services Respond to Incident Near Brighton Clock Tower
Emergency services were called to Western Road, between the Brighton Clock Tower and H&M, at around 3.40pm following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a bus. A 16-year-old girl was treated at the scene by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service before being transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Police Launch Investigation – Road Remains Closed
Sussex Police have confirmed that the road remains closed while enquiries continue under Operation Sunstone to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
A police spokesperson said:
“Enquiries are ongoing and the road will remain closed while our investigation is carried out. We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact us online or call 101 quoting Operation Sunstone.”
Travel Disruption as Buses Diverted from Western Road
The road closure has caused major travel disruption in the area, with buses diverted and the public advised to avoid the city centre.
