A teenager has denied murdering 16-year-old Joshua Ingram, who was fatally stabbed outside Seaford railway station last year.

The defendant, also aged 16 and unable to be named for legal reasons, appeared at Lewes Crown Court, where he entered a not guilty plea to a charge of murder. He also denied a further allegation of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

Joshua Ingram, from Newhaven, was found seriously injured near the station shortly after 5pm on 10 September 2025. Emergency services were called, but he was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering stab wounds to his back and side.

During the hearing, the court was told that the defendant admitted carrying a knife on the day of the incident but denied being responsible for Joshua’s death.

Two other boys, aged 14 and 16, have also been charged in connection with the case. Both have previously pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm and are expected to stand trial alongside the murder defendant.

The court heard that the case involves a group of teenagers and will be dealt with at a joint trial, which is provisionally scheduled to take place later this year.

Joshua’s death prompted a major investigation by British Transport Police, supported by Sussex Police, with officers continuing to support his family following the tragedy.

The defendants were remanded in custody, and further pre-trial hearings are expected before the case proceeds to trial.
