A 17-year-old boy has appeared before Crawley magistrates charged in connection with a stabbing in Worthing.
Emergency services were called to Victoria Park, Worthing in the early hours of Saturday, 28 February, following reports that a man had been seriously assaulted. The victim, a man in his 40s, sustained a stab wound after what police described as a brief interaction with two individuals inside the park.
Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before he was taken to hospital for further medical care. He has since been discharged and is continuing his recovery at home.
Following enquiries by Sussex Police, a 17-year-old from Brighton was arrested and subsequently charged with wounding with intent and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.
The teenager appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 3 March, where he was remanded in custody. He is due to appear again at court at a later date as proceedings continue.
Police have confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have been in the park at the time and seen anything suspicious to come forward.
Investigators are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage from the area during the early morning hours of 28 February, which could assist with the case.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact police, quoting the relevant crime reference, as officers continue to build a comprehensive picture of events leading up to the assault.
