Farmers Warn Dog Owners After Third Serious Livestock Attack in Mayfield

Farmers near Mayfield are urging dog owners to keep pets under close control following another serious livestock attack at Holmstall Farm, Stonehurst Lane/Horleigh Green Road, Five Ashes.

The latest incident – the third in a month – is believed to have occurred overnight. One ewe was found dead in a ditch, another fatally injured with severe wounds, and a lamb badly hurt. The farm has provided a number of images of the attack, but they are too shocking for us to publish, underlining just how devastating the incident was.

Holmstall Farm has stated that police are heavily involved in the investigation. Extra checks and cameras have been installed on the property, but those responsible have not yet been identified. There is currently no clear pattern to when the dog or dogs are striking.

Livestock worrying is a criminal offence in the UK and can have devastating consequences for farmers and their animals. Farmers are reminding anyone walking dogs in rural areas to keep them on leads and under strict control at all times around livestock.

Anyone with information, sightings, or relevant CCTV footage is urged to contact Sussex Police via 101.
