Seven more motorists have been convicted of drink-driving offences following Sussex Police’s annual Christmas road safety campaign.
The festive crackdown, which ran from 1 December to 1 January, focused on removing dangerous drivers from the roads during one of the busiest periods of the year. Sussex Police confirmed the operation resulted in 279 arrests, with multiple cases now progressing through the courts.
As part of the campaign, the force continues to name offenders once they are convicted in a bid to highlight the serious consequences of drink-driving and deter others from offending.
Among those recently sentenced were:
Patrycja Perzynska, 42, of Littlehampton, who was found to be over the legal alcohol limit and driving without insurance. She was disqualified from driving for 17 months and fined, with additional court costs.
Vasile Duca, 39, from Brighton, was recorded at more than three times the legal limit and was also driving without a valid MOT. He received a suspended prison sentence, unpaid work, and a three-year driving ban.
Clive Attrell, 62, of Sedlescombe, was banned from driving for 20 months after being caught drink-driving.
Chris Monson, 65, from Hassocks, received a 16-month driving disqualification following his conviction.
Tony Radley, 42, of no fixed address, was disqualified for 20 months after driving while over the limit and without a licence.
Madeleine Nyang, 47, from Crawley, was banned from driving for 20 months.
Duncan Wagmore, 64, of Billingshurst, was disqualified for 20 months after being caught drink-driving.
ll defendants were also ordered to pay fines, court costs and victim surcharges.
Sussex Police reiterated that the legal drink-drive limit in England and Wales is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. Officers warned that even small amounts of alcohol can impair judgement, reaction times and concentration.
Drink-driving offences carry severe penalties, including a minimum 12-month driving ban, unlimited fines, possible imprisonment and a criminal record, which can affect employment and travel.
Police have urged the public to report suspected drink-drivers immediately by calling 999, stressing that a timely report could save lives.
