A butcher’s shop in Hangleton, Brighton and Hove, became the unlikely venue for a secret rave on Thursday night, drawing around 100 people to the street for an impromptu party.
The underground event was organised earlier in the day, with invites quietly circulating online. By nightfall, crowds had gathered outside the butcher’s shop where UK drum and bass producer Hedex and Brighton-born rapper ArrDee delivered surprise sets that quickly turned the neighbourhood into a street festival.
Legendary MC Fats provided support, keeping the energy high as the crowd spilled out onto the road, dancing to pounding basslines and live freestyles.
Local content creator (Insta) @mjlmidlifeswitch was on hand to capture raw footage of the night, which has since spread quickly across social media. Fans have been urged to follow his page for more behind-the-scenes moments.
ArrDee, real name Riley Jason Davies, rose to fame in 2021 with his hit single Oliver Twist and has since released his debut mixtape Pier Pressure, collaborated with artists including Aitch, and even appeared on the big screen in Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance. Hedex, meanwhile, is one of the UK’s leading jump-up drum and bass DJs and producers, with a dedicated fanbase across the UK and Europe.
While the event caused a stir locally, residents described the atmosphere as good-natured and celebratory, with police monitoring the scene but allowing the party to run its course.
The butcher’s shop rave adds to Brighton and Hove’s reputation as a city known for its vibrant and unconventional music culture.
