I stopped by Barbara’s Bier Haus in Brighton recently and it was absolutely heaving – busy as hell from the moment I walked in. It’s clearly a popular spot. Because of that, service was a little on the slow side, but in a venue that packed it was understandable. The staff were working hard and doing their best to keep up with demand.

There was a bit of confusion over a voucher code we’d won, which turned out to be down to it being displayed wrong to bar staff, my error.. It was eventually sorted, but it did cause a short delay during an already busy period. This was a promo code from their website, go get yourself one.

The venue itself held up well considering the footfall. Cleanliness was solid throughout. The music is loud and gives the place a proper party atmosphere, but what works well is the layout. There’s a quieter bar area if you actually want a conversation, a karaoke section if you’re up for some fun, and even a small outside space for fresh air.

Drinks are where Barbara’s really delivers. I had their own beer,  Barbara beer (or bier) is the winner in this venue – crisp, refreshing, and easily my top pick of the night. I love the plastic all the way, and the pitchers of all sizes. Safety first in a busy venue.

One small personal gripe – and this isn’t on the venue – is people who go up to the bar and don’t take their empty glasses back. In a place this busy, it makes a difference. A little courtesy goes a long way and helps staff keep on top of things.

Despite the crowds and the voucher hiccup, it was a strong overall experience and somewhere I’d happily return to.

Reviewer’s Verdict: One to try if you’re in Brighton, Ive been a fan since their promo in the town last year. Yeah I loved my mini glass.
