Serial offender Kenny Grubb breached court order to target same Co-op four times
A prolific shoplifter who repeatedly breached a court order to steal from stores in Crawley has been jailed.
Kenny Grubb, 33, of Midhurst Close, Ifield, appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 18 June where he admitted four shop thefts, four breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), and possession of cannabis.
Grubb was previously banned from entering a number of retail premises in Crawley, including Co-op, Tesco, Morrison’s and Greggs, under the terms of a CBO.
Despite this, he returned to the Co-op in Ifield Drive on four separate occasions this month, stealing items including alcohol, meat, washing detergent, and energy drinks between 6 and 17 June.
On one occasion, he was seen filling a duffle bag with goods before walking out without paying. On another, he forced his way in as shutters were being lowered.
Grubb was identified and arrested by Sussex Police and has now been sentenced to 12 months in prison.
District Commander Chief Inspector Steve Turner said:
“We are determined to prevent shop thefts and work with businesses, so we are pleased that a prolific offender is now behind bars.
“Grubb had been subject to a CBO with specific exclusions, but chose to continue offending. His arrest and sentencing sends a clear message that we will not tolerate repeat retail crime in Crawley.”
Police are continuing to work with local retailers to tackle shoplifting and are urging members of the public to report incidents to help them take effective action.
