Sussex Police have launched a public appeal for information following a serious incident reported in Barrack Hall Park, Bexhill. On Monday, 18 August 2025, just after 5:30 pm, a woman in her twenties reported being raped by a man in the park. She is now receiving specialist support as the investigation continues.
The suspect is described as a white man wearing a short-sleeved top and trousers. He is not believed to have been known to the victim. Authorities have initiated CCTV and witness enquiries in the area and are urging anyone who was in or around the park—or near its entrance—between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm on that day to come forward. In particular, they are appealing for anyone who captured the scene on mobile phones, dashcams, or other recording devices to assist, as such footage may prove vital.
Detective Inspector James Meanwell acknowledged the community impact of the incident, assuring residents that officers are working tirelessly, maintaining dedicated patrols to offer reassurance and visibility throughout the area. He reaffirmed that the victim continues to have the full backing of specialist officers.
Police are urging anyone with information to report what they know online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Calcot.
