Police have launched an investigation after a woman reported being raped in a car park in Worthing.
The incident is believed to have taken place at Lyndhurst Road Car Park shortly after 8pm on Wednesday 11 March. Officers from Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses and information as enquiries continue.
The victim, a woman in her 20s, is currently being supported by specialist officers while detectives carry out a fast-moving investigation. Police say several lines of enquiry are being explored as they work to identify and locate a suspect.
Detective Superintendent Jay Mendis-Gunasekera said officers are in the early stages of the investigation and remain focused on supporting the victim while gathering evidence.
“We are at the early stages of this investigation and the victim will continue to receive our full support as this progresses,” he said.
Police confirmed there will be an increased police presence in the area while enquiries are carried out. The car park may also be temporarily closed while investigators gather and preserve evidence linked to the report.
Detectives are urging anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident, or who may have relevant information, to come forward.
Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area, is asked to contact police.
Information can be reported online via the Sussex Police website or by calling 101, quoting Operation Blyth.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in or near Lyndhurst Road car park in Worthing shortly after 8pm on Wednesday evening.
