    Pedestrian hit by bus in Brighton

    The bus lane in St George’s Place, near St Peter’s Church in Brighton, was closed earlier today (Monday) following a serious collision involving a bus and a pedestrian.

    Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12pm, with witnesses reporting that a man was struck by a southbound bus shortly after 1.30pm.

    Images from the scene show a bus with a cracked windscreen, as SECAmb (South East Coast Ambulance Service) and Sussex Police responded to the incident. The injured man was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries.

    A spokesperson for Sussex Police said:

    “One man has been taken to hospital to be treated for a serious injury.
    No arrests have been made.
    A temporary road closure was in place while emergency services were on the scene. This has now been lifted.
    Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant information such as CCTV, mobile, or dashcam footage to report it to us by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or by calling 101 quoting serial 528 of 03/11.”

    Traffic officers remained at the scene for several hours conducting enquiries. The bus lane and surrounding area near Old Steine and London Road experienced significant disruption, though routes have since reopened.
