Brighton’s nightlife is set for a major shake-up as the former Walkabout site on West Street prepares to reopen under a brand-new name — Barbara’s Bier Haus. The venue is due to open in November.

The £1.5 million transformation is being led by NEOS Hospitality, which has acquired the venue and plans to turn it into an après-ski themed party bar. The project will see the once-familiar Australian-style pub completely reimagined with a winter-resort atmosphere, alpine décor, and a lively entertainment focus.

Barbara’s Bier Haus is part of NEOS’s growing portfolio of bars and late-night venues across the UK, marking its fifth location under the brand. The company says Brighton was chosen for its strong nightlife reputation and diverse party crowd.

The new venue will aim to blend a social drinking experience with themed entertainment, promising everything from ski lodge-inspired interiors to upbeat party nights that reflect the brand’s signature après-ski vibe.

Walkabout’s closure earlier this year, alongside nearby Popworld, left a notable gap on West Street — one of the city’s busiest nightlife areas. The arrival of Barbara’s Bier Haus is expected to reinvigorate the stretch, bringing fresh energy and investment into the area.

A NEOS spokesperson said the Brighton site will be “completely transformed,” with upgrades to lighting, sound, and seating to create a high-quality space for partygoers.

The venue is expected to open its doors before the end of the year, adding a new chapter to Brighton’s ever-evolving club and bar scene.

Barbara’s Bier Haus joins a wave of new hospitality investments that show confidence in Brighton’s nightlife economy, even as some long-standing venues close their doors.

West Street may be changing — but the party, it seems, is far from over.
