Sussex Police have successfully obtained a Slavery and Trafficking Risk Order (STRO) against a 20-year-old man from Hove, placing strict restrictions on his activities to protect vulnerable people from potential exploitation.

The order was granted at Brighton Magistrates’ Court following a police investigation into concerns about the suspected exploitation of vulnerable individuals linked to drug supply.

Mohammed Macallin, of St Leonards Avenue, Hove, is now subject to wide-ranging conditions under the two-year order, which applies across the United Kingdom.

The restrictions imposed by the court include:

    • Not owning more than one mobile phone or SIM card unless it is registered in his name at his home address.
    • Not engaging in any direct or indirect contact related to the selling or carrying of controlled drugs.
    • Not possessing drug-related paraphernalia.
    • Not interacting with anyone under the age of 18 unless the contact is unavoidable or with the consent of a parent or guardian.
    • Not arranging or facilitating transport or accommodation for anyone outside his immediate family.
    • Not providing travel documents, tickets, or travel cards to anyone under 18, except in limited lawful circumstances.
    • Not using social media to create, share, or distribute content that glorifies violence, exploitation, or drug use.
    • Not staying away from his registered home address for more than four days without notifying police.

A Slavery and Trafficking Risk Order is a civil preventative measure available under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It can be imposed where a court is satisfied there is a real risk that an individual may commit a modern slavery or trafficking offence and that restrictions are necessary to protect the public.

Breaching any of the conditions of the order is a criminal offence and can result in a prison sentence of up to five years.

Sussex Police said the order is designed to reduce the risk of harm to vulnerable members of the community and forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle exploitation and organised criminal activity in the county.
