Emergency services were called to the scene, directly outside the Langham Hotel, at around 5.50pm on Friday, 7 November, after a grey Volkswagen Polo struck the man, who was from Wadhurst.
He suffered serious injuries and received treatment from paramedics before being taken to hospital. Sadly, he died four days later. His next of kin have been informed, and police have expressed their condolences at this difficult time.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 33-year-old man from Eastbourne, was uninjured.
An investigation is now underway, and officers are urging anyone who witnessed the collision—or who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage—to come forward. Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the pedestrian or the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident.
