A man has died and another has been arrested following a reported assault at a pub in Haywards Heath, Sussex Police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to The Heath Tavern in Sussex Road at around 10.50pm on Monday, after reports of a serious incident inside the pub.
A 63-year-old man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in a critical condition. Sadly, he was later pronounced deceased. Police confirmed that the man’s next of kin have been informed, adding that their thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
In an update, Sussex Police said officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and remains in custody.
The incident has prompted a major police response, with officers carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened during the late-night incident.
