A man has been charged in connection with a serious sexual assault that took place in Brighton over the weekend.
George Alieu, 45, of no fixed address, was arrested following a reported rape in Dorset Gardens on Sunday, 22 June. Sussex Police launched an immediate investigation, leading to Alieu’s arrest and subsequent charge.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 June.
The area around Dorset Gardens, a small but busy park near Brighton’s Kemptown area, was cordoned off for several hours on Sunday as officers carried out forensic work and made inquiries.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident, or who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area around the time of the assault, to come forward.
In a statement, Sussex Police said they are continuing to support the victim and that further updates will be provided as the case progresses through the courts.
