A man has been arrested and charged following reports of concerning behaviour in a car parked near a primary school in Portslade.

Police were called by members of the public who raised concerns about a man sitting in a vehicle close to Peter Gladwin Primary School in Drove Road.

Witnesses reported that officers arrived at the scene on Thursday morning and detained the suspect after he was allegedly caught committing an act inside the parked car..

Sussex Police confirmed that a man has now been charged in connection with the incident.

In a statement, the force said:
“A man has been arrested and charged with two counts of committing an act of outraging public decency.

“It follows reports from members of the public concerned by the behaviour of a man in a car parked in Drove Road, Portslade, on 11 March and 12 March.

“50-year-old Ben Wheeler, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court today.

“We’d like to remind the public of their responsibility not to post any comments which could prejudice the right to a fair trial.”
