A man has been remanded in custody after being charged in connection with a serious stabbing in Chichester.

Officers responded to reports of an altercation in an alleyway near Exton Road around 1.50pm on Monday, July 22. A 29-year-old man was found with injuries consistent with a stabbing and was taken to hospital in a serious condition, where he remains.

The incident occurred in an alley running northwest from Exton Road towards Kingsham Avenue. It was reported that several other men fled the area following the altercation.

As part of their investigation, Sussex Police arrested two men — aged 20 and 28, both from Chichester — at an address in Brighton on Wednesday, July 23.

One of the men, Cobi Armah-White, 20, of Wayland Gardens, Chichester, has now been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 28, and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on August 28.

The second man, aged 28, has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Hopkins said:

“This continues to be a fast-moving investigation, and a suspect has been charged and remanded in custody. We are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident. I would like to thank the public for their support so far and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
