A 25-year-old man is due to appear in court after a stabbing on the seafront in Worthing.

Police were called to The Esplanade at around 3.20pm on Thursday (5 March) following reports that a man had been stabbed.

The victim, a local man in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition, according to Sussex Police.

Following enquiries, Clayton Ellis, 25, of no fixed address, has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He is scheduled to appear before Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Monday (9 March).

Officers also arrested a 31-year-old man from Worthing on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Sophie Chaplain said the individuals involved were known to each other.

She added: “Those involved are known to each other and I want to reassure the local community that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.

“We urge anyone who may be able to assist us in our investigation to get in touch, either with CCTV, ring doorbell footage or dashcam footage.”
