A man has been charged after a firearm was reported at Maresfield Services near Uckfield.
Sussex Police were called at around 11pm on Tuesday, 6 January following reports that a person was seen in possession of what appeared to be a firearm at the service station.
Armed officers were deployed to the scene as a precaution while enquiries were carried out. Police quickly identified a vehicle linked to the incident and traced it to an address connected to the registered keeper.
Officers attended the address and arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of possessing an air weapon in a public place. A gas-powered BB revolver was later recovered and seized.
The suspect has since been identified as Johnjoe Doyle, 23, of Nevil Road, Uckfield. He was charged on Wednesday, 7 January and has been released on bail.
Doyle is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 13 February.
Sussex Police confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.
