A man has been charged following a disturbing incident of alleged indecent exposure on Hove beach that left witnesses shocked on a busy summer afternoon.
Lee Mutoro, 36, of no fixed address, has been formally charged with indecent exposure and is currently in custody. He is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 11 August.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 21 June, when Sussex Police were alerted to reports of a man allegedly exposing himself in front of a woman and a child near the popular Brunswick Terrace area of the seafront. Officers swiftly responded and arrested the suspect on the beach shortly after the call was made.
Police are now appealing to the public for further information. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident — or noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity around that time — to come forward.
A police spokesperson said: “We take incidents like this extremely seriously and are working to establish the full circumstances. If you were in the area and saw what happened, or have any relevant footage or information, we urge you to come forward as soon as possible.”
Those with information that could assist the investigation are asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 830 of 21/06.
The beach area around Brunswick Terrace is popular with families, tourists, and locals alike, and the incident has prompted concerns about safety and appropriate policing along the seafront.
This is a developing story, and further updates are expected following Mutoro’s court appearance in August.
