Police have arrested a man after reports that members of the public were exposed to on a popular walking and cycling route in Polegate.
Officers from Sussex Police were called following reports that a man had exposed himself on the Cuckoo Trail during the morning of Tuesday 10 March. The incidents were reported to have taken place between around 6.30am and 8am.
Following the reports, officers attended the area and quickly identified a suspect. An 18-year-old man from Polegate was arrested on suspicion of exposure.
The suspect has since been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue and officers gather further evidence, including any relevant CCTV from the area.
Sussex Police say they understand the concern such incidents can cause within the local community and have increased patrols in the area while the investigation continues.
Chief Inspector Kara Tombling said officers were deployed quickly after the reports were made and reassured residents that keeping the community safe remains a priority.
She added that officers will continue to maintain a visible presence along the trail and surrounding areas while enquiries are carried out.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour on the Cuckoo Trail on the morning of 10 March to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to report it online or by calling 101, quoting reference 200 of 10/03.
The investigation remains ongoing.
