A large-scale sea and air search is currently underway off the Sussex coast following reports of a person overboard from a vessel this morning.
HM Coastguard received the emergency call at 10.19am, triggering an immediate multi-agency rescue response south of Brighton Marina.
A Coastguard spokesman said:
“At 10.19am this morning, HM Coastguard received reports of a person overboard from a vessel off Newhaven. RNLI lifeboats from Shoreham and Newhaven have been sent to search, along with an HM Coastguard rescue helicopter, a Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft and two nearby vessels in the vicinity. The incident is ongoing.”
RNLI all-weather lifeboats (ALB) launched from both Newhaven and Shoreham, while a Coastguard rescue helicopter and fixed-wing surveillance aircraft continue to assist from above.
Two nearby vessels are also supporting the search operation at sea.
The incident remains ongoing, with rescue teams working to locate the individual.
