Rail passengers are facing major disruption this afternoon (Tuesday, 29 October) after a person was hit by a train at Balcombe.
The incident has led to the closure of the Brighton Main Line between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges, affecting services operated by Southern and Thameslink.
Emergency services are on the scene, and power to the affected section of the railway has been switched off while they respond.
A spokesperson for Southern Rail said:
“We’re very sorry for the disruption to journeys. Trains are unable to run between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges while the emergency services deal with an incident near the railway. Please check before you travel and allow extra time for your journey.”
Trains are being diverted where possible, and replacement bus services are being arranged.
Passengers are advised to use the National Rail Enquiries website or check updates via @SouthernRailUK and @TLRailUK on X (formerly Twitter) before travelling.
