Hove Man Jailed for Six Years After Major Cocaine and Cannabis Seizures

A Hove man has been jailed for six years after police seized over one kilogram of cocaine, two kilograms of cannabis, and thousands of pounds in cash during two separate incidents.

First Stop on the A27 Uncovers Cocaine and Cash

On 18 September 2024, officers stopped a Volkswagen on the A27 westbound near Hollingbury, Brighton, for a faulty brake light.

Passenger Gianpaulo Bambi, 28, of King George VI Drive, Hove, displayed suspicious behaviour, prompting a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Officers discovered one kilogram of cocaine and £2,750 in cash. Bambi was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A and B drugs, acquiring, using or possessing criminal property, and riding in the front passenger seat without a seatbelt.

He was later charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of criminal property. Bambi was remanded in custody before being granted conditional bail.

    Second Arrest in Brighton

On 27 May 2025, officers on a proactive patrol in Brighton observed suspicious behaviour between two men outside an address – one of them being Bambi.

Police noticed a strong smell of cannabis and attempted a search under Section 23, which Bambi resisted.

Officers found around two kilograms of cannabis, cocaine, and a significant amount of cash. Bambi was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs and obstructing a constable.

The following day, he was charged and remanded into custody.

    Court Proceedings and Sentence

On 25 June 2025 at Lewes Crown Court, Bambi pleaded guilty to acquiring, using or possessing criminal property, as well as possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs.

Following a three-day trial starting on 13 July, Bambi was sentenced to six years in prison. Further proceedings will now take place under the Proceeds of Crime Act to recover criminal assets.
