A 64-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison for a historic rape in Horsham.

Oslen Kelman, of Lambert Road, Lambeth, London, was charged with three counts of rape relating to a woman in her 50s who was known to him. The offences date back to the early 1990s, including an attack in a motorway service station toilet, as well as repeated assaults over a sustained period.

Kelman was first tried in March 2025, which ended in a hung jury. At a retrial at Lewes Crown Court, he was found guilty of one count of rape relating to the motorway service station incident and not guilty of the other two charges.

He was sentenced at the same court on Friday, 30 January, to four years in prison.

Detective Constable Gemma Nickols praised the victim for her courage in coming forward, saying:
“Thanks to her strength, Kelman is now rightly behind bars having faced justice. Our message to other victims of sexual offences, no matter how long ago, is to please report to Sussex Police. We will support you, we will investigate and we will do all we can to get the justice you deserve.”
