Between 10:00 and 19:00 on both Monday 30 June and Tuesday 1 July, an emergency speed restriction will be in place on the railway line between East Croydon and Burgess Hill.

With temperatures in London expected to reach up to 34°C, rail infrastructure is at risk of overheating. To ensure safety, trains will run at reduced speeds, which may cause delays of up to 10 minutes.

    Affected Services & Key Changes

Southern and Gatwick Express services will be affected across the region, particularly on routes between London, Gatwick Airport, Brighton, and the coastal towns.

    Key service amendments:

    • Gatwick Express: Will run only between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.
    • Southern: Services from London Victoria to Littlehampton via Hove will now terminate at West Worthing and restart from Worthing back to London.
    • Reduced service: Between Littlehampton and Brighton – check live updates before travelling.

    🎟 Ticket Flexibility

    If your journey is affected:

    • Gatwick–Brighton: Use Thameslink or Southern services with the same ticket.
    • Worthing–Littlehampton: Use alternative hourly Southern services from Worthing at no extra cost.
