GRANNY DJ will screen at the Made in Sussex Film Festival at Lewes Depot on Sunday 29 March 2026 at 20:00, marking its first local showing following its premiere at the Horror on Sea Film Festival.
The Brighton-shot horror-comedy is set to close the festival’s Made in Sussex programme and is currently competing for the £10,000 Best Director Prize. The screening will also feature the accompanying presentation of Charlie Shaw’s Revenge, directed by John Langridge.

Filmed largely in Brighton, Granny DJ showcases recognisable local locations including the tunnels of the Old Ship Hotel and Zahara Nightclub, now home to DUST, one of the city’s newest grassroots music venues. The production brings a distinctly local energy to its neon-lit aesthetic. The film is co-written by Faith Elizabeth and Brighton-based writer James Alexander Allen.
Starring Jill Stanford in the lead role, Granny DJ follows a woman entering her later years who refuses to fade quietly. Instead, she reinvents herself as a DJ, embracing a chaotic and vibrant lifestyle while distancing herself from her family. What begins as a bold and defiant transformation gradually reveals a darker, more unsettling undercurrent.

The story is largely told through the perspective of her grandchild, Lola, played by Summer Elizabeth. Blending comic-book style visuals with elements of horror, the film explores themes of grief, denial, and the emotional complexities of protection and avoidance within families.

Directed by Sussex-born filmmaker Faith Elizabeth and produced by Faithful Films alongside Tripod Productions, the project continues Elizabeth’s exploration of grief through genre storytelling. In addition to her work in film, she is also the founder of Yes She Cannes, an initiative dedicated to supporting women in the film industry.
This special screening at Lewes Depot on Sunday evening offers audiences a chance to experience a locally produced film that combines dark humour with emotional depth, set against a backdrop of familiar Brighton locations.
