Passengers travelling between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon face continued disruption tomorrow, Monday 19 January, after engineering work over the weekend is now expected to overrun.

Network Rail has been carrying out essential maintenance between Gatwick Airport, Redhill, Reigate, Purley, and East Croydon, closing all lines over the weekend. Only two of the usual four lines will be available tomorrow, meaning reduced services and cancellations throughout the day.

Key impacts for Monday 19 January:

Gatwick Express services between Brighton, Gatwick Airport, and London Victoria will be suspended.

Thameslink services between Brighton and Cambridge will be suspended.

Peak-time Southern services between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria, and between Littlehampton / Bognor Regis / Eastbourne and London Bridge, will not run.

No trains will stop at Earlswood (Surrey) or Salfords stations all day.

Other short-notice changes are possible, with delays expected due to reduced line availability.

    Services running normally:

Southern services between Reigate and London Victoria.

Southern services between Redhill and Tonbridge.

Passengers are advised to check journey planners before travelling. Journeys may take significantly longer, with delays ranging from 10 minutes to over an hour depending on the route.

    Alternative options:

Tickets valid for Monday can also be used on Tuesday 20 January on Southern, Thameslink, and Gatwick Express services.

Rail replacement buses may be available on certain routes, though these are expected to be busy.

Details on alternative services and station pick-up points can be found on National Rail Enquiries and station signage.

    Compensation:

Passengers experiencing delays may be entitled to compensation. Keep your ticket and a note of your journey to support any claim.

All lines are expected to reopen for normal service on Tuesday 20 January.
