Emergency services were called to a fire at a derelict building in Ashburnham Road on the afternoon of Thursday, 12 March 2026.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews were alerted to the incident at 16:55 following reports of a blaze at the disused property.
Four fire appliances and an Aerial Ladder Platform were sent to the scene, where firefighters found the first floor and roof space of the building well alight. Crews wearing breathing apparatus are currently using a main jet and firefighting foam in efforts to bring the fire under control.
The road has been closed to the public while emergency services deal with the incident. Sussex Police are also in attendance, assisting with traffic control around the area.
Residents living nearby have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed due to smoke in the vicinity, and members of the public are being asked to avoid the area while firefighting operations continue.
An update on the situation is expected once crews have brought the fire fully under control.
