U25521 safely lands after crew declares onboard emergency over southern England
An easyJet flight from Alicante to Manchester was forced to divert to London Gatwick Airport on Sunday morning (May 25) after a passenger required urgent medical attention mid-flight.
Flight U25521, an Airbus A319-111, was flying over the southern coast of the UK when the pilot declared a medical emergency. The plane made a controlled descent and landed safely on runway 26L at Gatwick Airport at around 8:30 AM.
Medical Incident Triggers Urgent Diversion
An easyJet spokesperson confirmed the situation in an official statement:
“Flight EZY5521 from Alicante to Manchester today, 25 May, was required to divert to London Gatwick due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention. The passenger was met at London Gatwick by medical services.”
The airline reiterated that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority, and the flight is expected to continue on to Manchester once cleared.
Swift Response at Gatwick
Though the nature of today’s medical event has not been disclosed, emergency responders were standing by at Gatwick and reacted promptly upon the aircraft’s arrival.
Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 revealed that the plane abruptly turned north from its original Manchester-bound route shortly after crossing the English Channel.
