A 24-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter after a man tragically died in Eastbourne last year.
The incident occurred on 26 October 2025 in Canute Close, where emergency services attended to a 66-year-old man who had been assaulted. The victim was taken to hospital but sadly passed away on 12 November 2025.
The suspect, Cameron Grocutt, who has no fixed address, was originally charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm. Following the victim’s death, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Attorney General’s Office reviewed the case and authorised a new summons for manslaughter.
Grocutt first appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court in November and is due to appear again on 18 February to answer the manslaughter charge.
Detective Superintendent Jayantha Mendis-Gunasekera said the investigation remains a priority for officers and emphasised that the incident is believed to be isolated. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to support the investigation.
