A banned driver who led police on a dangerous 15-minute pursuit through Arundel has been jailed.

Marley Keet, 28, of Old Market Lane, Littlehampton, was already disqualified from driving when officers spotted him outside Arundel at around 1pm on April 13. When police attempted to stop him, he sped away, weaving through traffic at high speed.

During the pursuit, Keet drove the wrong way around a roundabout, collided with other vehicles, and headed towards Amberley before turning into a rural dead end. He then tried to hide in the back of the van he was driving but was quickly arrested.

Keet was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, and failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

At Lewes Crown Court on 17 June, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and banned from driving for a further two and a half years.

Speaking after the sentencing, Roads Policing Unit PC Rick Schofield said: “Keet’s driving was highly reckless and posed a significant risk to himself, his passenger, other road users, and pedestrians in the centre of Arundel. He showed complete disregard for the safety of others as he tried to flee.

“This case demonstrates our commitment to identifying and removing dangerous drivers from our roads. Excess speed and driving under the influence are among the leading causes of death and serious injury on our roads, and we will continue to take action against offenders.”
